I have had mixed feelings about the craps "Field Bet" Is that a good bet to make because I have heard from most that is isn't.

there are 36 discrete rolls of the dice on a field bet 20 rolls lose and 16 win. The 2 or 12(not both) usually plays double and triple in downtown LV. On the strip the house advantage is 5.56% and 2.78% downtown. The "tight field" bet is a very bad bet, the "loose field" (downtown) is really not that bad about the same as a single zero roulette layout. Still compared to a pass line bet with full 3-4-5x odds they're both very bad bets the order of magnitude is 10 and 20 times worse.

Wow, thanks for the info. I have to check the "loose" field bets downtown.
Don't forget to register. ;)

I consider myself a "craps expert" but never bet the field. I believe (now) that virtually all NV casinos have the "loose field" that pay triple on either 2 or 12.
The field bet is not really a sucker bet(you are better off making field bets than nearly all roulette bets, 3 card poker, caribbean stud, or let it ride), but it seems better then it is because only 4 numbers lose, 7 (6 ways) 6 and 8 (5 ways each) and either the 5 or 9 (4 rolls) for a total of 20 losing rolls.
If you bet a dollar on the field for 36 rolls and the dice "cycle thru" each of the 36 rolls you will be down one dollar. 1/36=2.77%. A pass line bet is about twice as good.
It is one of simplest bets to make in the casino and some people will defy the odds in the short run.
I love to answer questions about craps.
